Have to Go Back to Africa
In recent years the long lines have become an integral part in the life of an
African asylum seeker in Israel. This morning, Africans who came to
renew their visas got a letter at the end of line, which says they have sixty
days to leave Israel, or they’ll go to prison. Like Habtoom, many others
who came out with this letter in their hands declared that they prefer to go
to prison. It’s important to say, currently Ruanda is a safe country and is
considered modern, relatively to other African countries. The problem is
that unemployment is high there, and in line, one could hear the fear of
poverty. Meanwhile, until they go back, if that, the asylum seekers will be
forced to face one question: whether to go back to Africa, or go to prison.
