A Happy Wedding
It started as a family wedding, painful and quite intimate. A few hundred
friends and relatives came to celebrate the creation of Sarah and Ariel
Biegel’s new home, at a celebration [lit. happiness] postponed under tragic
circumstances. The bride’s father and brother were murdered in a terror
attack two weeks ago. In the hours following the Huppah the couple
danced with the invited guests, inside the hall; but on the days before the
wedding, this invitation was also posted, “We want to invite anyone who’s
felt our pain with us.” The private event became national at once. Over ten
thousand people crowded there. Who were these masses? Most (were)
orthodox, but also quite a few seculars and quite a few ultra-orthodox. And
surprisingly, many of them weren’t even Israeli. Now both of them want to
go back to school, build their home, go back to (their) anonymity. The
public is used to unite around disasters, they told us last night. We know
(how) to cry together, in this case, despite the sadness and grief, our
wedding was an opportunity to unite in this wave of terror around joy, too.
