Item #3 (Advanced Level)
Superman is Eighty Years Old
The Man of Steel is eighty. This superhero landed on Earth straight from
the planet Krypton in nineteen thirty eight, on the cover of the first ever
“Action Comics” book. Eighty years later, an original copy of this
historical book is worth millions of dollars. In honor of the round birthday
of Superman and the character behind whom he hides, the journalist Clark
Kent, a festive book will be published on Wednesday in the United States,
and it will also be the one thousandth issue of “Action Comics.” The
superhero in the red cape turned overnight into a success and flew out of
the pages to save humanity and Lois Lane. The colleagues at the “Daily
Planet” editorial board know him as Clark Kent, a dedicated, shy and
somewhat nerdy journalist, they have no clue that he was born with the
name Kal-El, was launched in a spaceship to Earth, and that he is super-
fast, immune to bullets, has x-ray vision and more and more, of course,
until he encounters Kryptonite. Even at his old age, Superman is still at the
heart of one turbulent controversy, that is splitting the Earth, and perhaps
even the universe, in two – Batman or Superman, who will win the dual?
