When is Lag BaOmer?
The Lag BaOmer vacation in schools is supposed to be on a Sunday, but
the Rabbinate wants to move it to Monday so that the bonfires won’t be on
Saturday night and there would be people who’ll desecrate the Sabbath.
The parents, who have to work both on Sunday and Monday, are angry
because now they have to either stay home or find someone to be with the
kids. The Parents Organization in Jerusalem thought of a new idea –
moving the bonfires to Thursday night, and then the Lag BaOmer vacation
would be on Friday, which is a short day and many people don’t work on
it. Chief Rabbi Lau has already agreed to the idea, the question now is
what will Naftali Bennett, Minister of Education, say about it.
