Introduction to Prepositions Track 13
Introduction to Prepositions in Hebrew
In Hebrew, correct usage of prepositions is a major key in
building sentences. At the end of this study kit we have
dedicated an entire chapter to prepositions.
Now you will only get partially familiarized with the preposition
structure and use, in order to get a better understanding of the
material during the learning process.
Prepositions in Hebrew usually come after a verb. The
prepositions change according to the subject to which the verb
refers.
Proper use of prepositions helps in creating correct sentences;
improper use really spoils the sentence and may cause
misunderstanding of the meaning one wants to convey.
Let us now get familiar with several most useful prepositions.
to – ְל from – ִמ
in - ְב with - ִעם
Examples:
to Tel Aviv ְל ֵתל ָא ִביב
from Tel Aviv ִמ ֵתל ָא ִביב
in Tel Aviv ְב ֵתל ָא ִביב
with Michael ִעם ִמי ָכ ֵאל
Note: one-letter prepositions get combined in writing with
the succeeding word.
