Saying Goodbye to Rabbi Shteinman
Bnei Brak woke up to the difficult news this morning. The announcement
from the Mayanei Hayeshua Hospital came out saying that the leader of the
Lithuanian-Haredi public, Rabbi Aharon Shteinman, passed away. And it
was pretty obvious from the beginning that the small city would have to
soon take in hundreds of thousands coming to say goodbye. The bereaved
came from all over Israel, just to catch a spot, to be able to escort on his final
way the man who, in recent time, was the biggest leader in the Torah world.
What made the Rabbi so loved? (They) say he was a pragmatist, modest and
mainly attentive to anyone who came to consult with him. Rabbi Shteinman,
may he rest in peace, was a modest man, some say too modest. He asked
that when he dies not to eulogize (him), not to print banners, not to announce
on speakers or come to the funeral. Even two hours after he was buried we
got a reminder that his last wish was probably too much for the public who
thought so well of him.
