Using the verb “to be” – ‫ ִל ְהיֹות‬in the Future Tense

As mentioned earlier, the verb ‫ = ִל ְהיֹות‬to be, is not used in Hebrew in the

present tense. This verb has 4 main usages:

1. Location

In this case the verb ‫ ִל ְהיֹות‬is conjugated according to the object / subject / person.

Present Future ‫ָע ִתיד‬ ‫הֶֹוה‬

I am home. I will be ‫ֶא ֱה ֶיה בב ִית‬ .‫א ִני בב ִית‬
home tomorrow. .‫מחר‬
They are They will be .‫ֵהם בּקֹו ְלנֹוע‬
in the cinema. in the cinema. ‫ֵהם ִי ְהיּו‬
She is She will be .‫בּקֹו ְלנֹוע‬ .‫ִהיא ב ִמ ְשרד‬
in the office. in the office.
‫ִהיא ִת ְה ֶיה‬
.‫ב ִמ ְשרד‬
