The Train Track Park
Anyone who travels on a bus in Jerusalem knows that the bus is
always late, the driver is irritable, and there are always traffic jams.
But it wasn’t always like that. At the end of the 19th century (they)
built in Israel the first train track in the Middle East. The track
connected between Jerusalem and the coastal area of Israel.
By the track (they) built many neighborhoods, like the expensive
Bak’aa, the Katamonim and the Arab village Beit Zafafa. When (they)
closed the train station, the track turned into a place of garbage and
filth (that came from) the entire neighborhood around.
A few years ago, the municipality decided to turn the track into a park
for all the residents of Jerusalem. (They) paved a lane for pedestrians
and bicycles, planted flowers, built playground and sports facilities
and today the track is one of the nicest places in the city.
One can walk along the track and drink coffee at the train station, use
the sports facilities in the Katamonim, drink orange juice in Beit
Zafafa and watch a soccer game at Malcha.
If you have energy, you can get up at 5:00 AM and run together with
hundreds of people who run along the track, every day, all year.
