The Bible Hill
The Bible hill is an exposed hill above the Jerusalem Khan and across from
Jerusalem’s train station.
The Bible hill is one of Jerusalem’s urban nature sites. It is shaped like a dome,
and it includes about four last acres of nature in the city center, and it is a small
memory of Jerusalem’s ancient views.
The Bible hill remained unbuilt as a nature pearl thanks to the British. When the
British arrived in the country, Jerusalem was run down due to the Ottomans’
bribery and bureaucracy. Therefore, the British brought in garden architects in
order to leave green spots in Jerusalem.
Some believe that this is the mountain mentioned in the book of Joshua (15, 8):
“And the border went up by the Valley of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the
Jebusite southward--the same is Jerusalem--and the border went up to the top of
the mountain that lies before the Valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the
uttermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward.”
On this hill it is possible to see all changes of season. Every year, in the fall, the
Bible hill begins to fill with beautiful flowers.
On the top of the hill there is a gorgeous lookout over the Old City and over the
Valley of Ben Hinnom, which throughout history was the border of Jerusalem.
Like on every border, interesting things can be found on this border as well:
Burial sites, nature sites and interesting people.
The Society for the Protection of Nature set as its goal to also safeguard nature
within the city, for the residents and visitors of Jerusalem.
The visit at the urban nature site is free. Visitors are asked to walk on marked
trails and rock beds only, so that everyone would be able to enjoy the bloom.
