BDS against Israel
Next Wednesday, the guidelines to the European Union’s countries are
expected to be published. Agriculture and cosmetic products from the
settlements and the Golan Heights won’t be sold under the usual title
‘made in Israel’, but under a special writing that would make clear that
these are products from settlements. This isn’t a new policy; already in two
thousand five, Israel signed a deal with Europe that didn’t include
settlement products, but in Jerusalem (they) see a danger here for the
expansion of the boycott on Israel. Tzipi Hotovely will set out this week to
meetings in Spain and other European countries in order to try (and)
convince decision makers to hold off [lit. wait with] applying the
guidelines. At the same time, a victory was jotted down to Jewish lawyer
Alan Dershowitz in a debate at Oxford University’s debate club, where he
was able to convince students that the BDS boycott movement is
preventing the possibility of peace in the Middle East. And still, it seems
that most of the union’s countries want to apply the new guidelines,
expressing Europe’s policy that the settlements aren’t legal.
