Father and Son

Shiri Nir found herself today, in the middle of (her) life, saying Kaddish
over her husband and son. She had trouble speaking, eulogizing her
beloved, but didn’t pass on thanking those who fought for her son Ilay’s
life, and tried to the last minute to make it so that she’ll stand in front of
one grave today instead of two. (This) weekend they set out on a families’
hike, as they often did, this time in the Ze’elim canyon area. They left the
house happy, with a planned trek and sandwiches, but everything was
stopped short when Ilay slipped and his father Omri tried to save him, but
fell to his death as well. Ten year old Ilay’s friends from school, some of
whom were, as mentioned, witnesses to the disaster as well, were asked
not to come to the funeral so as not to add to the hardship they’ve
experienced. Mother Shiri lost in an instant two of who she holds dearest.
Ilay, may he rest in peace, has two siblings remaining, Na’ama and Nadav.
