Gabi Ashkenazi Cleared
Former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi can be relieved, he won't be
prosecuted in the "document" affair. Five and a half years after uncovering
the affair, which started as the Galant Document, and later came to be the
Harpaz Affair, the decision comes today. A hundred thousand hours of
recorded conversations, tens of interrogates, countless developments, end
today with a decision by the Attorney General. In the report, which counts
over a hundred pages, the Attorney General criticizes the former Chief of
Staff, but the headline is clear: the case against Ashkenazi closes, the only
defendant is the document's composer, Bo'az Harpaz. For five and a half
years Israel's law enforcement agencies dealt with the Harpaz document.
After listening to a hundred thousand recorded conversations, the Attorney
General Yehuda Weinstein decides today that no evidence were found for
strategically operating businessmen, Ministry of Defense officials,
journalists and politicians to promote damaging the political section, based
on political agendas by Ashkenazi.
