Act Out 22

Daniel: Good morning.
Manager: Good morning. Are you Daniel Levy?
Daniel: Yes. It’s nice to meet you.
Manager: It’s nice to meet you. I read your CV. I see you have a bit of

             experience in polls.
Daniel: I have a lot of experience. When I was in college I worked in polls

             for four years.
Manager: Ohh… What did you study at college?
Daniel: Computers.
Manager: Why aren’t you looking for work in computers? The salary in

             computers is better.
Daniel: I know, but I think that the work in polls is interesting. It’s

interesting to hear what people think.
Manager: So you like hearing from people what they think? Because, you

know, you like to hear – but [the] Israelis don’t like pollsters.
Daniel: [The] Americans don’t like pollsters either, it’s okay. A serious

pollster knows how to speak with people.
Manager: What is a serious pollster?
Daniel: A serious pollster has a lot of patience. He reads all the questions in

the poll and thinks about every question.
Manager: And you’re a serious pollster?
Daniel: I think so, and my manager from New York thinks so, too. I have

             references.
Manager: Right, you’re from New York. So you’re a new immigrant. Isn’t it

difficult for you to speak on the phone in Hebrew?
Daniel: Not at all. I have a family and friends in Israel and I speak to them

             only in Hebrew, always.
Manager: Yes, your Hebrew really is good.
Daniel: Thank you very much.
Manager: You’re welcome. Daniel, I see that you really are serious. We’re

looking for employees for two years. Can you commit?
Daniel: Commit to two years?! No, I can’t… I’m enlisting in August.
Manager: I’m sorry. We’re looking for workers who can commit.
Daniel: Now you tell (me)? I travelled to here for almost an hour on the bus.

We’ve been speaking for already 20 minutes. Only now you tell me
that you’re looking for workers for two years.
Manager: I’m really sorry, but there’s nothing to do now Well, I

                                have another interview. Goodbye.
