Who Likes Cholent?
In the Me’a She’arim neighborhood in Jerusalem, on Thursday night, there
are many people in the street and they’re all waiting in line for the cholent
that’s coming. The ultra-orthodox call it Friday eve, the night when they
eat Shabbat food. This custom started because on Thursday night the
Yeshiva boys would study all night at the synagogue, and had to eat
something. Today it’s already a time out that not only the ultra-orthodox
come to and it only ends before dawn. With a little money (you) can eat a
plate of cholent or any other Jewish food you like, kugel, herring and
more. it’s a Glat Kosher good time, Me’a She’arim’s nightlife.
