                     Zika in South America

In the past months there has been a dramatic increase in the spreading of
the deadly Zika virus. One bite is enough, and the fetus’ brain and skull
stop developing. There’s no vaccination, and no treatment. Up until today,
the virus was restricted to Latin American countries, but today the World
Health Organization announced: North America is in danger too. When
there’s no vaccination, and no treatment, there are only two options: don’t
go to Latin America, or don’t get pregnant, (and) this is what most
countries recommend. The United States is taking no chances and
recommends that pregnant women don’t go to Latin America. In addition
to fetuses’ health, Zika threatens the Olympic Games as well, which Brazil
is supposed to host this summer. At the moment twenty two countries are
defined as dangerous. No case was found in the United States, but there
are many women who visited these countries, and didn’t know they were
pregnant, and didn’t pay attention to every bite. Now they’re anxious.
