Nachalat Binyamin Street
Who says that the problem with the prices of apartments in Tel Aviv
began only in the year 2000? Nachalat Binyamin neighborhood was
established on the 5th of December 1909 and had only one street-
Nachalat Binyamin.
The ones who established the neighborhood were 40 people, nearly all
of them teachers, handicraft workers and small merchants who wanted
to establish a neighborhood like Achuzat Bayit (today- Tel Aviv). The
ones who established the neighborhood wanted to do it in order to give
an option to non-rich people to buy houses at the same price as their
rent.
In 1911 Nachalat Binyamin neighborhood and Achuzat Bayit
neighborhood (Tel Aviv) made an agreement. According to the
agreement, Tel Aviv will give water and services to Nachalat Binyamin,
and Nachlat Binyamin will be part of Tel Aviv and will pay Tel Aviv
for the services. A year later Nachalat Binyamin is already an integral
part of Tel Aviv city that is slowly growing. From the year 1985 part of
Nachalat Binyamin street was closed off to cars.
