E-Tone™: Ulpan-Or Weekly News Digest

                                                 Item #1 (Advanced Level)

For the Glory of the State of Israel

Only today, just ten days before the state ceremony, which will officially

open Israel’s seventieth festivities, (we) can break the news of the most

important part of the ceremony – the lighters of the torches. A big,
dignified group that is made of this year, among others, singer Shlomo

Artzi and actors Leah Koenig and Ze’ev Revach. General (reserves)

Shaike Gavish, one of the high commanders of the Palmach and the IDF’s
founders’ generation, will also be among the lighters of the torches. He’ll

be joined by Noam Gershony, the fighter pilot who was injured in the

Second Lebanon War and has since become a tennis Paralympian
champion. The one who will light a torch with no Hebrew mistakes in his

speech is the the linguist and Hebrew advisor, Dr. Avshalom Kor. Still on
the list are a few less familiar people to the broad public, but just as worthy

            – among whom is an ultra-orthodox hi-tech woman working to integrate

more women like her in the field, a fifteen year old girl who developed a
patent against the phenomenon of forgetting children in the car and the

dean of the biotechnology and food engineering faculty at the Technion,

who conducted groundbreaking researches. Everyone barely has time left
to rehearse their speeches, and mostly “for the glory of the state of Israel”.
