Act Out
Act out from English.
Daniel: So, Shira…
Shira: What?
Daniel: You want to know why I’m making aliyah to Israel?
Shira: Yes.
Daniel: Ok. I have an uncle in Israel – my father’s brother. He lives in
Jerusalem.
Shira: Oh.
Daniel: My dad loves his brother very much, and every year in August,
we come for a visit in Israel.
Shira: What do you do on the visit?
Daniel: We tour the country, meet friends, and many more things.
Shira: Do you like the visits here?
Daniel: Yes, very much. All year I think about the visit. At the end of
the visit I don’t want to return to America. In short, my uncle
has three children: Benny, Gil, and Tali. Benny and I are good
friends; we speak a lot on the phone and on Skype, and also
write a lot of emails (to each other).
Shira: Nice.
Daniel: Yeah. In 2006 Benny was a soldier and there was a war in
Lebanon. And you know what?
Shira: What?
Daniel: I thought I should [need to] be in Lebanon, helping Benny and
his friends. I thought I should also enlist in the IDF. I thought I
should finish college and come on aliyah to Israel. And that’s
it. Now I’m here.
Shira: And your parents? What do they say about this?
Daniel: They don’t like it, but they understand. They’re terrific parents.
Shira: Terrific? Wow, you really are an Israeli…
Daniel: Thank you very much!
Shira: Umm… thank you very much isn’t really Israeli…
Daniel: I know, but… I’m Israeli, but also a gentleman.
Shira: Never mind… One week in Israel and it’ll pass.
