The British Occupation
In 1917 the British capture the land of Israel from the Turks. The
Jews in Israel are happy, because:
1. The Turkish government is not good.
2. The British minister Balfour, the minister of the colonies, writes:
"A Jewish home should be built in the land of Israel."
The Jews think that the British help them to build a home in Israel
with a Jewish government. But it does not happen.
The Jews and the Arabs in Israel fight a lot, and the British help the
Arabs.
The British also do not let new immigrants come to Israel.
And then, the Jews fight the British. They fight with three
underground movements: "The Hagana" ("The Defense"), "Etzel"
(acronym for "National Military Organization"), and "Lekhi"
(acronym for "Israel Freedom Fighters").
The British put many people from the underground movements in
prison.
