No More Tzipi

Twenty years in the Knesset and government came to an end today. At the Likkud, Kadima,

Hatenua and the Zionist Union. With all the transitions and turnovers, there was one moment that
could have changed Israel’s history. In October two thousand and eight, when she was the most
popular figure in Israeli politics, Livni got the one-time opportunity to be Prime Minister with

seventy seats in the center-left block. But in one of the greatest misses in the history of local
politics, she missed against an empty goal. The Knesset Mamber who joined the Likkud after she
was horrified, as she put it, from the wording of the Oslo Accords, became over the years the bearer
of the two-states flag. She supported the disengagement, moved along with Sharon to Kadima, led
Kadima to a surprising victory in seats over Netanyahu’s Likkud, just to find out that the block is
more important than the party. She established Hatenua in order to serve as an alternative for
Netanyahu. After losing, she found herself in an unhappy relationship with Avi Gabay. She didn’t
accept his leadership, he didn’t value her contribution, and it all fell apart on live TV. Livni came
back to her party, as the song says, “If it has to be alone, let it be on the go,” but this ended this
morning as well.
