Surprise in a hotel
Surprise: a young woman returned the hotel a bag with tens of items, which she
has stolen over the years.
She took everything – from kettles to slippers and dishes.
I became religious and I regret about what I have done, she explained in a letter
that was attached to the huge package, which arrived at the hotel at the Dead
Sea a few days before Yom Kippur.
Even the oldest people in the hotel business at the Dead Sea do not remember
such a case: a woman, who over the years was staying in the hotel and
systematically stole everything, sent everything back along with a letter of
regret.
In the letter that arrived a few days before Yom Kippur, the thief lady also
explained that she decided to return the stolen property because lately she
became religious.
The woman stayed many times in the Nirvana Yam Hamealch hotel and each
time she used to steal several items till she accumulated huge quantities.
Two weeks ago she decided to return the whole catch, which included tens of
items – starting with expensive kettles, pillows, sheets, blankets, towels, robes
and slippers through dishes, glasses, ashtrays and ending with knives, spoons
and forks.
In the apology letter that was attached to the surprising package, the young
woman from the center of Israel wrote to the Hotel Public Relations manager –
Leon Ben Amron, that she apologized and asked for forgiveness for stealing
systematically from the hotel over the years.
"I decided to return back all what I have taken, because we became religious
(Ba'alat Tshuva) (apparently both – she and her husband) and we regret our
deeds" she wrote.
"We are aware of the severity of our deeds and we ask for forgiveness"
The woman even indicated her address on the envelope, with no fear, and
attached it to the huge bag, in which tens of stolen items were placed.
Ben Amron told, that the hotel General manger, Paul Melotzki, was shocked by
the quantities.
"This is a familiar woman in the hotel", he said. "She used to stay here several
times each year. Her decision to return the stolen property was of course
accepted with astonishment, but also with great satisfaction.
Ben Amron added "If she asked for forgiveness and absolution and expressed
remorse – who are we, that because of several tens of items will not forgive
her?"
