Hava Nagila
One can say that the song Hava Nagila is the most popular Jewish thing,
more than bagel with lox and more than Seinfeld or Woody Allen. The
song comes from a Shtetl in the Ukraine, where its melody is a melody to a
Hassidic song. (The person) who writes the new lyrics to this melody is
Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, who writes it after the Balfour Declaration, which
helps the song become popular with Jews all over the world. The song’s
happy music and rhythm connect Jews all over the world, at every
wedding or Bar Mitzvah, even in times that are less good.
