Yehuda Amichai
Yehuda Amichai (1924–2000) is an important and famous Israeli poet.
Amichai is born in Germany to an Orthodox family. He immigrates to
Israel with his family at the age of 11. They live in the beautiful
Yemin Moshe neighborhood.
During World War II, Amichai is a soldier in the British Army, and
during the War of Independence in 1948, he is a soldier in the
Palmach (movement). He writes many poems about the wars, about
love and about Jerusalem. On Emek Refaim Street, one can find signs
with his poems on them.
At the beginning of Emek Refaim Street (they) want to build a
neighborhood named after Yehuda Amichai. There is a fence there for
several years already and also a sign that tells about the neighborhood,
but there is no neighborhood yet…
