Story – Shopping with Mom
Mom: Gadi, I’m going to the mall. Do you want to come with me?
Gadi: To the mall? What will we do there?
Mom: We’ll buy dad a gift for (his) birthday.
Gadi: Okay, I’m coming. Mom, maybe we’ll go up to Toys ‘R Us?
Mom: Toys ‘R Us? What will we do there?
Gadi: We’ll buy me Lego.
Mom: Lego? What will you do with Lego?
Gadi: Dad and I will build beautiful things together.
Mom: No, you won’t build together. Dad will build everything alone, and you’ll watch
TV, right?
Gadi: So maybe we’ll buy me…
Mom: Gadi, now we’re buying a gift for dad. In February you have your birthday, and
then everyone will buy you gifts.
Gadi: Okay. Hey, mom, look, there’s a cinema here. Maybe we’ll see a movie?
Mom: No, we don’t have time now. On (your) vacation you’ll see lots of movies,
Gadi: Okay… Mom, I’m thirsty. Buy me something to drink.
Mom: Are you thirsty? Drink water. You have water in your bag.
Gadi: Okay. Mom, I’m hungry, buy me something to eat.
Mom: Gadi, the food at the mall is junk. Soon we’ll go [up] home and you’ll eat a good
meal.
Gadi: Okay. Mom, I’m tired…
Mom: Gadi, enough! Don’t be a nag. This is the last time I’m going to the mall with you.
Gadi: You always say that.
Mom: This time it’s for real.
Gadi: You always say “This time it’s for real.”
Mom: This time it’s really for real. You’ll see: the next time I’ll go to the mall, you’ll
stay home.
Gadi: And if I (will) cry? Here, I’m crying now…
Mom: Come on, Gadi, don’t make a scene… Okay, you’ll be a good boy, and at home
you’ll watch TV.
Gadi: Until 10 at night?
Mom: Until 10 at night, just do me a favor, be quiet for a little while (lit. be a little quiet).
