‫נפעל – שם פעולה‬

In Hebrew, we can derive a noun/gerund out of most verbs.
This is called ‫( שם פעולה‬gerund).
Just like the verbs themselves, the nouns are created in a constant
pattern, according to each Binyan.

Let's see how to derive a noun from an infinitive in NIF’AL.

‫ ִה ָו ְנ ו ּות‬ ‫ְל ִה ַה גֵ ה‬

Staying ‫ִה ָשארּות‬ ‫ְל ִה ָש ֵאר‬
Linkage ‫ִה ָצ ְמדּות‬
Presence ‫ִה ָמ ְצאּות‬ (to stay)
Avoidance ‫ִה ָמ ְנעּות‬
‫ְל ִה ָצ ֵמד‬

(to be attached, linked)

‫ְל ִהָּמ ֵצא‬

(to be present)

‫ְל ִהָּמ ַנע‬

(to avoid)
