Making Aliyah from Yemen
The journey ended before dawn. The new immigrants from Yemen, after a
long journey and a covert operation that lasted over a year, were finally
able to hug (their) children and grandchildren who waited for them on the
ground of Israel at the absorption center in Be’er Sheva. The small group,
seventeen people, are the last of the Raydah community, near Sana’a.
After years of a bloody civil war, the (Jewish) Agency was able to bring
them home. Rabbi Sleiman Dahari, teacher, rabbi and butcher of the small
community, arrives with his wife and parents to meet (their) grandchildren
and children. They end the journey on a bus, a grueling journey. Kids,
women and men, old and young, who left everything and came here with
one ancient book of Torah, eight hundred years old. Today the immigrants
finally received ID cards. They already got immigrant cards last night, and
all authorities were committed to assist. Today in Be’er Sheva (they’re)
getting used to a new life. The last group of immigrants from Yemen are
hugged and sought-after, tonight they’re invited to the Knesset for a
special meeting with the Prime Minister, (and) hopefully in a few months
there would still be (those) who will remember them and listen to their
needs.
