Riding with no Excuses
For several years the Israel police (has been) dealing with electric bicycle
riders. In the streets the cyclists do whatever they want: ride on sidewalks
and crosswalks, ride with little children, talk on the phone while riding and
more. In the past year the number of fines electric bicycle riders received
in Israel has tripled, when in Tel Aviv (they) gave the highest number of
fines – more than eight hundred fines. The cyclists on their part complain
about the police and that there’s no infrastructure. Some of them have
interesting excuses, like “I usually get off the bike at the crosswalk, but
today I forgot.” Or “I was riding on the road but I just wanted to ask the
police officer standing on the sidewalk something.”
