Dyslipidemia
Dyslipidemia is elevation of plasma cholesterol, triglycerides (TGs), or both, or a
low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level that contributes to the
development of atherosclerosis
Because lipids are insoluble in plasma, they must be transported in the circulation in the
form of lipoproteins.
Lipoproteins transport Cholesterol, triglycerides, and phospholipids in blood
Lipoproteins include (Chylomicrons, VLDL-C, LDL-C, IDL-C, and HDL-C)
Lipid panel
[high cholesterol]
Total cholesterol > 190 -200mg/dL
or LDL-C > 100 mg/dL
[metabolic syndrome]
Serum TGs 150-500 mg/dL
serum HDL-C < 40 mg/dL
