“Picking a colour to use throughout the house can really tie it all together.”
STICK TO YOUR BUDGET
I know how easy it is to let a project grow beyond what you initially planned, but there are some ways to keep that budget under control. Take the time to shop around; eBay is great for bargains, as is Facebook Marketplace. Alternatively, upcycling bits you already have can breathe new life into a room, especially if you can make it a feature piece.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest difference. Two tone kitchen cabinets won’t be any more expensive but will look chicer. I recently took cheap white tiles for the bathroom and took the time to make it look a lot more expensive by arranging in a more Moroccan style pattern. I then added a selection of plants for a splash of colour – you can’t go wrong with greenery to brighten any space up!
COHESIVE COLOURS
If you’re opting for bold colours and statement furniture like I do (I love my bright yellow sofa!) picking a colour to use throughout the house can really tie it all together. I’m planning on black accents, mostly on the woodwork downstairs to make the spaces flow nicely.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO GET CREATIVE
A project I’m excited to get to is my garden; I’m planning on installing an old fireplace and surrounding it with mirrors. Not only will it be a fabulous looking interest piece, it’ll be a way of extending our living space, perfect for entertaining. I love the dichotomy of placing something usually found inside, outside. The same can apply to anything you repurpose – almost anything can be transformed into a real statement piece with a little time and imagination.
