Allen County - Hurshtown
This portion of the trail runs east from Haifley Drain to the Norfolk Southern Railroad
right of way. The trail then continues north along the railway to the intersection of
the tracks and Roth Road. It then follows Roth Road north to Hurshtown Reservoir.
The purpose of this trail is to provide a connection between the Leo-Grabill Sports
Complex and the Hurshtown Reservoir. With the connections to the other trail
portions, this will allow people to travel from this area all the way to Metea Park.
The need for this portion of Trail is great. It would be used significantly to provide
access to Hurshtown Reservoir and the area surrounding it. The project scope
includes a 10-foot wide trail through the project area for approximately 7,000 LFT.
A 5’ minimum grass buffer will be provided between the trail and Roth Road. Drives
along the roadway will be reconstructed as needed. The anticipated right of way
impacts are 5.2 acres across 7 parcels.
Impact:
• Attraction and retention of population and workforce
• Regional trail connection as part of the Northeast Indiana United Trails Network
• Connection of six parks and two commercial downtowns in East Allen County
• Improved pedestrian safety
• Improved non-motorized mode of transportation connectivity
• Enhanced opportunities for recreation and physical activity
