The much-loved movie snack popcorn has been eaten in Mexico for 9,000 years. The Spanish conquistadores noted that the Aztecs had “a kind of corn that bursts when parched and discloses its contents and makes itself look like a very white flower.”

Diego Rivera, Painter, muralist (1886–1957)
Diego Rivera sought through his iconic murals to make art that reflected the lives of the working class and native peoples of Mexico.
Frida Kahlo, Painter (1907–1954)
Painter Frida Kahlo was an internationally renowned Mexican artist and feminist icon who was known for her self-portraits and her tempestuous marriage to Diego Rivera.
José Clemente Orozco, Painter, illustrator (1883–1949)
Painter José Clemente Orozco was a seminal part of the Mexican muralist movement of the 1920s. Often complex and tragic, his works were meant to reach all levels of Mexican society. Alejandro González Iñárritu, Born August 15, 1963, is a Mexican film director, who is the first Mexican director to be nominated and won for the Academy Award for Best Director,
and Best Picture for Birdman (2014) and the following year, won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Revenant (2015).

Tired of weeds overgrowing his Acapulco home’s backyard tennis court, in 1969 Enrique Corcuera built walls around the 20m x 10m space. By combining the best parts of tennis, racquetball, and squash, the first paddle court was born. A visiting friend from Spain took the idea home, and it was also picked up by Argentinians. The sport rapidly grew in populari- ty and is now played around the world.
PRINTING PRESS
The first book ever printed in the Americas rolled off the press in 1539 in México City, home to the New World’s first-ever printing press.
