And finally, headliner Vanilla Ice closed the party and was certainly an
expert at it. This time, I was familiar with most of his songs. My memory
was a jarred when he kinda started with an acapella “Go, Ninja, Go, Ninja,
Go.” The audience then repeated his cadence. I didn’t get it. And then this
plastic looking thing came on stage…and then I got it! Mr. Ice was joined
onstage by Michelangelo…yes, the Ninja Turtle. Looked like a real movie
prop. Vanilla sang “Ninja Rap,” a song that was featured in the 1991 movie
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.” Well, that was
a short 4-minute and 26-second song.

Times change and people change, and Vanilla Ice has changed for the
better. At 51, his look is more in tune to today's fashion style. Gone is the
crazy pompadour hair. He talked about family and having made 3 “ice ice
babies.” That was funny to me. And at the same time, some things stay the
same. His music will eternally haunt my ears…in a good way.

The evening went and ended with half the audience on stage with
him…including the other artists of the evening. Vanilla took lots of selfies
with everyone on stage. Boom went the confetti! A hurrah-farewell cannon
fired its mostly red and a bit of yellow 30-second confetti moment. I felt bad
for the cleanup crew.

This night was a welcome one and I said my good nights filled with fun and
nostalgia. This turned out to be a favorite concert event for me. I’d do the
90’s over again!
