Music by Cellar Door Moon Crow
“Whistler”
Anyone who hasn't heard Cellar Door Moon Crow before could be
forgiven on the first listening for thinking that there are three or four
musicians playing on their tracks. But no…put your ears on overdrive,
crank the volume control up to 11, and give that track another listen.
Brothers Tom (drums, keys, harp) and Phil Goodwin (guitars, shouty
stuff) manage to make all that racket just between the two of them…in
spite of what your ears might tell you.
The legend is that in their early years, they made a deal with the devil in
exchange for talent, and, as luck would have it, it seems that he took a
liking to them and gave them each an extra-large helping....and probably
seconds too! But, you know, it could be that the legend is total hogwash
and that they just put a helluva lot of hard work and rehearsing into what
they do. Who knows? I, myself, prefer to put it down to that sort of thing.
You know, the “natural talent coupled with years of hard slog” theory --
especially as Robert Johnson has pretty much cornered the market on
music/devil-related stories. Anyway, enough of that twaddle…let's get
down to the meat and bones of the matter at hand…
