The rapper and entertainer who rose to fame in the early 2000s with his rambunctious kind
of messy Southern hip hop, worked up the Tucson AVA crowd Friday night with a large
number of his hits, performing his pervasive and fairly questionable contribution to
mainstream music culture throughout almost 20 years. He brought his constant flow of smart
verses winding around shorts of hostility and sexual banter with comedic zingers – a la Ice
Cube (but not Ice Cube).
The concert attendees, obviously nostalgic to return to the sounds of the mid 2000s MTV
and BET days, sang along to songs like “Southern Hospitality.” Backed by DJ Infamous and
hype-man Lil Fate, Ludacris and his group playfully had fun with the audience while
revisiting his entire Ludacris catalogue of old hits -- songs such as “Get Back,” “Roll Out,”
and “Pimpin’ All Over the World,” and “Move B***H,” just to name a few.
