KY: There's room for everybody. I think things are moving on, blues are moving on. It needs to evolve because you
can't stand still. Music's not about standing still. If you went back to the 20's and 30's when people were starting
to sing blues music, it was frowned upon. It's voodoo music…don't get involved. It's always been when music
changes and evolves, people want to revert back to the old days and tradition. Blues is taking a long time to move
on, but it is now starting to. There's some exciting players out there that are making changes. The quality of the
music is more important to me than what box it fits in.
PL: The thing that slightly bugs me is there's an awful lot of very talented young players at the moment and the
audience doesn't seem to be getting younger. I want to know where all their mates are, why are they not coming
to the gigs? The audience seems to have evolved as well as the bands. I love the range of music that's going on and
the number of talented players out there is amazing. That's very good to see.
ION: You've announced the European tour for next year. How much are you looking forward to doing that?
ML: We are so excited! Since I first started playing music live, I've always wanted to play in just different countries
and go on tours. And here I am, 20 years later, finally doing it.
PL: Holland in February, Spain in April, Lindos, Greece in June. And then maybe Germany later in the year as well.
ML: Potentially Germany, Czech Republic in 2019, rather.
PL: We're probably on a path where people have gone and come back with tales about the great scenery. So
hopefully we're going to find that out for ourselves.
ION: Final question: For anybody that doesn't know anything about Catfish, have you got a message for them?
ML: Hi. We're Catfish. Come to a gig. We'll give you a sweaty hug and a CD, if you buy it. Live music is where it's at.
Please go, keep supporting live music.
PL: It's all about live experience – it’s different every time and just the amount of emotion. There's definitely a sort
of emotional intensity to our gigs and I think that's what people get when they see us.
ML: New people, new places…new album. We can't say when, but there'll be a new album…2018. We're not having
a deadline because the last time nearly killed us. So, we're going to just have a year as a deadline, a very soft
deadline.
ION: Brilliant. Thank you very much. Once again, I would like to thank The Bat & Ball Country Pub for letting us
use the place today, and lastly, thank the ladies behind Catfish -- Fiona who manages the band, Kim and Suzie
for their time on the Merch tables.
