Every once in a long while, I get reminded that there are still great amazing bands
around. The gems of rock and roll become fewer and fewer as the years go by –
and I am thankful for the few grand rock artists still around. Super Tramp, Queen,
Steve Miller Band, Peter Frampton, Steely Dan, REO Speedwagon, and Styx are
just a few of my many golden rock artist favorites that have been a huge influence
on me growing up. And tonight, amidst an Arizona evening thunderstorm, rock
legends Styx hit the stage at AVA (Anselmo Valencia Tori Amphitheatre) in
Tucson, AZ.
I first saw Styx on Feb 15, 1981, in Tucson, supporting their newly-released
“Paradise Theatre” album. In a 17- year-old kid’s eyes, Styx’s stage show was
massive, astonishing, and impressive. Tonight, as I listened and watched Tommy,
James, and the rest of Styx perform mere inches in front of me, I felt just like the
kid back in ‘81.
