There’s a clear movement happening in the rock and metal scene...female vocalists are
coming out screaming and are fronting more hardcore bands than ever! There’s Arch Enemy’s
Alissa White-Gluz, In This Moment’s Maria Brink, and of course, Heidi Shepherd and Carla
Harvey from Los Angeles’s own Butcher Babies. So many talented females have been hitting
my radar lately, from music, to art, to small business owners. By the way ladies, this month
Venus has returned in retrograde -- so hold on to that female energy that has returned in
your life and let go of those skeletons and demons that drag us down. Collaboration instead
of competition is where it’s at!
the LA music scene, is breaking ground with
Fate DeStroyed, a fierce new metal band hitting
an audio assault on your ear-holes that combines modern heavy metal with a 90’s industrial
sound that references the likes of Def Tones and Nine Inch Nails. Their songs are full of dark
lyrics, ethereal vocals, and deep growls.
Fate DeStroyed is fronted by bad ass musician, published tattoo model, and FIRE BREATHER
Franccesca De Struct. I met Franccesca when I first moved to Los Angeles in 2014. I was
impressed by her work ethic, talent, and all the projects she had going on. When I recently
heard she was fronting her own metal band, well, I just had to check it out.
Fate DeStroyed, who recently opened for Motograter and Orgy, is one solid project with a
unique way of releasing their tracks. Instead of rolling out the whole album at once, their fans
are treated to a new song every month, with each available for download, until the whole
album is revealed. This music marketing plan builds the anticipation for each new offering
and is as innovative as the sounds they create. Fate DeStroyed is Franccesca De Struct
(vocals), Jonni Law (guitar), Art Diharce (guitar), Ben Levi (drums), and Nathan Youngblood
(bass). The band features current and former members of Green Jellÿ, The Dreaming, and
Dirty Machine.
Fate DeStroyed was formed in 2016 by Franccesca De Struct from a very dark place in her life,
as we can all relate to. She took a break from music but was inspired to return, and so she
shopped the “Break Free” demo and Fate DeStroyed was born. I chatted backstage with the
band and did a fun impromptu photo shoot before they took the stage that night with
Motograter and friends Orgy (both tracks were co-produced with Carlton Bost of Orgy).
Franccesca danced and twirled back and forth, channeling that face-melting energy for their
second show. They all hugged and jumped on each other and felt that itch to get back on the
stage. We talked about how one of the main things Fate DeStroyed was looking for in a
member lineup was writers, not only musicians. “We wanted members who could write as
well as play because the sound will just get stagnant and then everything sounds the same.
We want members who could participate in the writing process,” says Franccesca. At the
band’s first practice, guitarist Art Diharce and bassist Nathan Youngblood said, “We clicked
instantly.” They knew their lineup was complete.
