The Main Squeeze formed in 2010 playing parties at Indiana University. Since then, they have spread their funk sound
throughout the states, playing on the festival circuit and around the country. In this case, they warmed up Red Rocks
for The String Cheese Incident. The intense funk rockers held their own and could have headlined their own Red Rocks
show, being totally natural performers and engaging with the eager audience who dug their sound very much.
Vocalist Corey Frye is a highlight of the band. His distinctive voice and wide range deliver the funky songs excellently.
This is furthered by his charming charisma and fun-loving occupation of the stage. The band is a joy to watch due to
him and with the rest of his group’s interaction with him. The whole band adds to the showmanship as well, especially
guitarist Max Newman and keyboardist Ben “Smiley” Silverstein.
There are a lot of takes on funk these days, and The Main Squeeze injects deeper energy to it by merging heavy rock
riffs over the groove. It combines for a very intense sound that is hard to take calmly. There’s no doubt that we’ll be
hearing much more from this group as they bring their total package of driving music and great show to more
audiences.
