TB: What is the progress on the debut album?
JC: As of now, we're concentrating on recording and releasing only singles. Maybe
once we've recorded 8-10 songs, we'll package them for vinyl, CDs, etc., but really,
we're approaching the market by releasing singles every 3 to 4 months so that
there's something always fresh for our fans.
TB: You are doing some shows this summer with Scotty Austin of Saving
Abel fame. How did that come about?
JC: We played a show with Scotty in October of 2022 in our hometown and really
meshed well musically. We had a chance to talk with him and the band a bit after
the show, and I've known Scotty and his drummer, Steven Pulley, from their days
in Saving Abel. One of my prior bands had played a few dates with them over the
years, plus we're both endorsed by Wornstar Clothing, so there was some history
there. Scotty and his team put together an incredible yearlong tour hitting
everywhere in the U.S. and were looking for potential opening acts. As soon as I
heard about this, I jumped at the opportunity to have The Lion Within be a part of
his tour and help warm up the crowds for him. Scotty and his band are amazing,
and it's an honor to be a part of what they're doing on tour this year.
TB: What have been some of the biggest challenges for The Lion Within so
far?
JC: Really, I feel like we've been pretty fortunate, and I couldn't be more thankful.
I've been in bands where I could've rattled off a list to answer this question, but for
The Lion Within, I don't feel like we've had any roadblock challenges that other
bands aren't also facing. Right now, we're focusing on playing as many areas in
the Midwest that we can, seeing what areas we're developing interest in, and
working at gaining as much exposure live as well as having our single ‘Starblind’
heard as much as we can. Interviews like this definitely help, so thank you for this
opportunity!
TB: You have several tour dates already announced and are working on more
singles. What else can your fans look forward to in 2023?
JC: In 2023, I'm sure you'll be seeing at least one new video single from us by the
end of the year. After our tour dates with Scotty Austin in October, we'll be hitting
the studio hard to get some new material out there. We're also sharing the stage
with Saving Abel in our home state at District 142 in Wyandotte, Michigan, on
Wednesday, July 5 -- as well as Drowning Pool on August 13 at Diesel Concert
th
th
Theater in Chesterfield, Michigan. We also have an interview on Horror City TV
which will be streaming on Roku and Pluto this coming October 2023.
