Scott pours on his share of drinking songs with
"Drinking For Two," co-written with Heino Moeller,
and facing more loneliness after finding both the
whiskey and the girl are gone in "When The Bottle
Goes Dry,” co-written with Jim Brantley Martin.
Of course, after all that happens, in typical country
music fashion, you then go out and party some more,
of course! But the next day, you end up with that
tattoo on your chest of a girl you can't remember --
as Scott describes with "Woman On My New Tattoo.”
Then Scott decides to take a break from it all so he
can take it easy for a day in the song "Just Fishing".
A light at the end of the tunnel comes in the form of
an unexpected new love he finds in the song
"Everything I Never Knew,” a great two-step style
tune co-written with Bill Whyte.
"Granny Used To Honky Tonk,” is co-written with
Dallas Moore and features him singing with Scott on
this just-for-fun line dance type country rocker.
I did mention a curve ball or two earlier in talking
about "Comin’ Round To Honky Tonk Again.” One
such song is "Ridin' Sparky Tonight,” co-written with
Jerry Salley. It's a pretty grim story in which Scott
caught his wife with his best friend and killed them
both. He is given the electric chair as sentence for his
crimes, hence the ridin' sparky reference.
Surprisingly, it's an up tempo sing along song, and I
found myself doing just that. What is wrong with me?
The story in the song reminds me of Porter
Wagoner’s “Cold Hard Facts Of Life" with a splash of
the psychotic "Delia's Gone" by Johnny Cash. Go
listen to them and you'll see what I mean!
