CY: Great question! I’d say originating the role of Samantha in my best friend’s
original play, ‘Ice Cream, Fro-Yo, and Accusations of the Murder of John Lennon’
was a great experience. I also helped produce the show. I was playing a role I
enjoyed, that of a paralegal (which with an attorney father and a paralegal mother
was an easy fit), and I was helping another female artist bring her vision to life. I
also really enjoyed playing the role of Mary Jane Hanrahan in ‘Jesus Hopped the
‘A’ Train’ in a scene festival while earning my MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio
Drama School. I like to play characters that are seeking justice and the truth.
TB: Who are you listening to these days?
CY: I am listening to the French electronic group, Yelle, specifically their music
from about 2005 to 2014. I don’t listen to the radio, and I also don’t like to listen to
what’s popular. In fact, if something is heavily buzzed about, I may give it a listen
to see what it is, but then I immediately turn on something else. The majority of it
is simply not appealing to me. I do love Kylie Minogue though and will listen to her
music. I also am listening to a lot of indie music lately, because to me, that is
where the real artistry is. I currently listen to Diamond Lounge and People of the
Parallel, to name a few indie artists. Of the pop music I have listened to lately, I
have enjoyed many of the offerings from Kim Petras, probably because she is
from Europe and one of her newer albums is French-influenced, French being my
other language besides English.
TB: For the rest of 2024 and early 2025, what can your fans look forward to
from Charley Young?
CY: They had a long wait this year for my first single of 2024 as it didn’t come out
until the end of June, but rest assured, there is a lot more music I am working on
(I appreciate their patience so much!). I released three songs between the end of
June and mid-July to make up for the wait. Currently, I am working on a new EP,
slated for release in early 2025. I have about three more collaborations coming
out before the end of 2024 as well and hope to have at least one more solo single
out before the end of the year too! 2024 and 2025 will see a lot of new music from
me!
I know Charley’s fans will be happy to hear more new music is on the way, plus
the EP in 2025. You can keep up with her new releases by following her on social
