Before I first met Andy P. Davison, I'd heard that he used to work
for MI5, so I was a bit taken aback when I was confronted by this
quiet, unassuming young character wearing a leather jacket and
grinning from ear to ear. There I was, thinking of the danger and
excitement that goes with that vocation, yet he didn't seem the
type to go swanning around the globe in helicopters, shooting
super-villains, and bedding beautiful women in exotic
locations…but you never can tell. Chances are that the best spies
don't look or act like James Bond at all, so who am I to question
it?
However, I was looking forward to our meeting and was even
thinking of taking a cat with me to stroke while I said, “Ah…Mr.
Davison, I've been expecting you.” So imagine my disappointment
when I found out that the information I had been given was slightly
incorrect and that he'd actually worked for MFI (the now defunct
furniture store). That's the trouble when you get the low-down on
somebody from a third party – it's Chinese whispers and all that.
So, if you want your arch enemy taken out by a secret agent, you'll
have to look elsewhere. But if you want advice on cheap three-
piece suites and dodgy kitchen units, then Andy is your man! But
anyway, all of that nonsense has nothing to do with today's
scribbling.
I caught up with Andy to ask him about his new album ‘...If My
Mouth Doesn't Say It, My Face Surely Will…’ (which recently hit
the stands) and to get his take on songwriting.
