Welcome to this jam-packed end-of-Summer edition of ION Indie Magazine! Gracing the cover of the
Sept/Oct 2018 issue is pop singer extraordinaire RILEY BIEDERER! Photojournalist and new Assistant
Editor of ION, KAREN MOORESIDE, makes her journalistic debut in our pages with a bang -- bringing both
an intriguing feature interview and eye-popping photography showcasing this singing/songwriting
sensation. Riley, both a finalist on Season 9 of THE VOICE and the winner of the KATY PERRY segment of
the YouTube-based “Best.Cover.Ever” competition, reveals to our readers the riveting developments in
her illustrious career. Check out the in-depth interview in these pages and discover why Riley was the
obvious choice for our cover story for this expanded issue of ION.
Also, in this issue are two of the top Wisconsin-based festivals – Milwaukee’s SUMMERFEST and Oshkosh’s ROCK USA! ION
contributing photojournalist EDDY SCHNEIDER III once again smashes it with his bold and brash photography and brings to the
pages of ION these two exciting events that had throngs of Summer concert-goers reveling in memorable (and sometimes
moshable) music. Immerse yourselves in exclusive photography of CHEAP TRICK, JETHRO TULL, SUM 41, GODSMACK, BUDDY
GUY, J. COLE, and MACHINE GUN KELLY…and much more! All inside these pages!
Besides being the fastest growing independent music magazine today, ION also celebrates music of all genres. This edition is a
great representation of the diversity we deliver with each edition. Photojournalist MARTY HAVIIK provides us incredible images
of such recognizable names in music entertainment from various genres…such as THE COMMODORES, THE ISLEY BROTHERS,
and DONNY & MARIE…fresh from the lens of Marty’s camera to you!
I had the pleasure to catch up with an alumnus of ION, bluesman FORREST MCDONALD and
his talented band! Managing Editor JB BRIDGES and I stopped by Forrest’s sizzling show at
DARWIN’S BURGERS AND BLUES in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Forrest (with captivating crooner
BECKY WRIGHT) served up a slap-yo-mama performance for the intensively appreciative
audience in attendance at the popular blues spot. For those of you who might not
immediately recognize Forrest by his name, you’d most definitely know his work – that’s
Forrest wailing on that screaming guitar lick in BOB SEGER’S “Old Time Rock and Roll.” I am
streaming his song “Certified Blue” (one of this fairy’s favorites) during this “Letter from the
Editor.” Learn about Forrest and his latest project “Forrest McDonald the Early Years with
Steve Jablecki” at https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/forrestmcdonald6
