Blue October is one of the alternative
rock bands that I've wanted to see
since the 1990s. They are from San
Marcos, Texas, but are originally
from Houston, Texas. Justin
mentioned in another interview that
the band's name came from the
mood of the band members when
they first came together in 1995. At
that time, many of the band members
were dealing with personal issues,
and the name "Blue October"
seemed to fit.
Blue October band includes Justin
Furstenfeld (lead vocals), Ryan
Delahoussaye (violin/viola, mandolin,
keyboards, and vocals), Jeremy
Furstenfeld (drums, percussion), Matt
Noveskey (bass guitar), and Will
Knaak (guitar).
I think the band's sound is a mix of
post-grunge, pop rock, and adult
alternative. The lyrics hit hard for me
as there are many people struggling
with mental health issues, some that
are my friends. Their most successful
single is the 2006 song "Hate Me,”
which hit number one in the United
States and Ireland. The band has
released nine studio albums to date.
