Another cool thing about the band is that all the members bring a wide variety of song styles to the table. At
one point, Charlie Scene brought out his acoustic guitar, and since he’s a country fan, he broke out with
Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” The audience erupted with ear-deafening cheers for Johnny. The song
then flowed smoothly into my favorite, “Bullet,” its cheerful tone and upbeat tempo directly contrasting its
dark lyrics.
At one point, Johnny 3 Tears introduced their tour drummer of many years, Tyler Mahurin. Charlie Scene
mentioned that Tyler had quite a voice in his own right and a few seconds later, Tyler was belting out Bon
Jovi’s “Living On A Prayer.” His impressive vocals possessed the same texture and style as Jon Bon Jovi
himself. Naturally, everyone in the audience joined in and began singing with him. Hauntingly exciting!
A highlight of the night was the song “Riot.” A collective camaraderie chain gang chant went up: “F@#k
that sh*t, let’s start a riot!” This is a party tune, an anthem song that can be played at either a rock venue or
at a dance club. This set fire to the crowd and the engaged and enthusiastic audience proceeded to
incessantly chant the lyrics to “Everywhere I Go.” The band obliged, and as those infamous keyboard pings
to “Everywhere I Go” rang out, the crowd exploded with a meltdown that reverberated throughout the
venue.
Their U.S. tour is over but no doubt will return. The band started their European tour in January with shows
in the United Kingdom. I had an amazing time. Overall, I highly suggest checking out Hollywood Undead.
They are well worth standing in line for!
