The first annual Monument Indie Fest was held at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry during
Labor Day weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Organized by popular Colorado radio station
Tri Lakes Radio and the independent label Indie On Air Records, this two-day event was greeted
with beautiful weather – with Pikes Peak front range serving as the picturesque backdrop for the
festivities. Beside the exceptional lineup of indie music, the fest also featured food trucks, specialty
item vendors, activities for the kids, and a beer tent for the grownups…something for everyone! ION
Indie Magazine was a proud sponsor of this event and thus, as a staff Photojournalist for ION and
also, a resident of Colorado Springs, I made it a point to be on hand to cover all of the sights and
sounds of this festival that celebrated some of the best of independent artists and bands from around
the country.
The first day kicked off with a performance by Beth Williams, an indie folk singer/songwriter who is
originally from Texas, now residing in Colorado. Beth is a well-accomplished award-winning singer
that has charted on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts. Next to take the stage was Emily Cole,
an alternative indie pop singer/songwriter from Houston, Texas. She performed acoustically, which
truly showcased her fabulous voice. Emily also won over the audience with her quirky and engaging
personality. At only 19-years-old, she is definitely a singer to keep your eye on!
