The past twenty-five years I’ve been wanting to see this amazing punk/ska/rock band from Mesa,
AZ. I got wind of them performing that same evening on a Facebook page somewhere. I really
wanted to do this story, so I sent a couple quick emails and Mike Cubillos from Earshot Media/
Authority Zero contacted me super quick, within an hour, and I was in front of the line that evening.
I arrived at the beginning of sets by several supporting bands, so I made myself comfortable near
the sound board and waited patiently. This club brought back many good memories as I used to
perform here with several of my bands in the past.
Authority Zero finally came on, right about their scheduled time, and the place got really dark while
the punk/ska audience got very loud. I could hear the band’s intro, “Per Qualche Dollaro In Più” (“For
A Few Dollars More”) which signaled Authority Zero’s arrival, as the audience loudly chanted, “Let’s
Go Zero!” With the energy-level soaring, the band hit the stage bringing the fire!
Jason DeVore (vocals) cut their intro short and started belting out “Passage In Time.” The audience
virtually lost it, and a mosh pit was born! Song after song, the band threw more coal into the inferno-
and the crowd was ravenously devouring it. The crazy part was that most of the audience were 18
years of age and younger, while the adult fans remained caged up near the bar area.
