decimal number to it, then look at the digit to its right

Less than 5 leave the underlined digit

More than 5 add 1 to the underlined digit

Use midpoint strategy to round 3.24 to the nearest tenths
3.24 is between 3.2 and 3.3
3.25 is midpoint between the two numbers 3.2 and 3.3
3.24 is closer 3.2

Then 3.24 ≈ 3.2
