Many times it will be difficult to clove hitch directly
to something like a tree with lots of branches in the
way. In these situations, it may be easier to clove
hitch to the rope that goes around the tree. This can
also make it easier to adjust the length of the line.
For greater security, you can add a full turn of the
rope around the anchor point, but this often isn’t
necessary.
1. Pass the line around the object. The working end then goes
around the standing part of the line and out next to the object,
creating your first half hitch.
