ILOs

Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

     a1 – Identify concepts of pharmaceutical care of patients with different disease conditions;
     know and define different health problems encountered in community pharmacies, identify
     their symptoms, recognize factors affecting their manifestations, identify different drug groups
     and their main possible side effects or drug interactions.
     a2- State key elements for prescription revision before dispensing, identify medication-related
     problems in the prescription and necessary pharmacist intervention

     a3- Identify and recognize the different OTC products (especially in the Egyptian market),
     different medical devices and self-care home tests and use.
     a4- Identify the target patient groups who need special care or counseling upon medication
     dispensing
     a5- To be conscious of the balance between the health related professional competence and
     commercial sustainability of the pharmacy

     a6- To be conscious of the role of the pharmaconomist with regard to compliance, concordance
     and adherence

Intellectual Skills

By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

     b1- Differentiate between diseases of similar symptoms and relate to different health disorders

     b2- Assess different patients and relate health conditions with lifestyle of individuals

     b3- Choose the most suitable OTC product for different health conditions (common cold, cough,
     otic disorder, foot care, dermatological disorders and GIT disorders) and propose a plan of
     treatment
     b4- Examine and revise the prescription, calculate doses, propose alternatives or
     complementary therapies
     b5- Manage medication therapy for selected chronic diseased outpatients

     b6- Distinguish between self-care candidate patients and those who need referral
